Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated with the rich and raw beauty of Australia and its landscapes. During a recent road trip around Australia, I created paintings and sketches in response to a range of landscapes, observing the textures, patterns and colours amidst them as well as drawing from the feelings that were evoked within me at the time. Witnessing these sights has sparked within me a feeling of deep appreciation and visceral wonder which has continued to resonate throughout my life. Now, in the studio, I continue to respond figuratively and lyrically using mixed mediums and earthy tones to encapsulate aerial perspectives of the land and explore themes of human connection and relationships. ‘Following Feathers’ acts as a reflection of the felt qualities of the landscape, not only by representing the land as its observed but also illustrating the experience of being in touch with it. The artworks depict the dialogue between myself and the world around me. Abstract and instinctual, the layered compositions provoke a sense of freedom of the untamed natural world and an uncontrollable curiousity of life.
