My recap of the second meeting with Block contestants, Rachel and Ryan on site!
After my first Block feature at Art Lovers Gallery in Melbourne, Brad Turner and I decided to expand our collaboration and create a new collection, Where Rivers Meet. In the midst of painting a new body of work, we receive a phone call from The Block contestant Rachel (House 2), it’s living and dining room week on The Block and she wants 2 more artworks from our first Back To Earth series! As Natalie from Haus Creative Group excitedly passes on this news, she shares that the room reveal is only a few days away, and the only way to get it to Gisborne on time, is if we hand deliver it to the site itself! I felt a little overwhelmed, but Natalie was so supportive and prepared to go the extra mile to get more of our collaboration on the show.
]]>The Block is an Australian reality TV renovation competition series, and from what I have heard, if you are an artist and your work gets on the show, this is a pretty big career boost!
Since working with Haus Creative Group and Brad Turner, I soon realised that through hard work and creating pieces that capture the essence of two worlds coming together, these opportunities were real.
Brad Turner and I worked on our first collection, “Back To Earth” in early April. Our first large scale artwork caught the attention of Art Lovers Australia. A few weeks later we received the call… our art will be on The Block! We had to pack our bags and prepare to fly down to Melbourne the next day to deliver the artwork.
Reality set in and I quickly realised how amazing this opportunity was going to be, my emotions came over me and I couldn't help but tear up and embrace the moment.
